Last week we talked about why explorers went out to find new routes to India and Asia and the 3 G's, which you should be able to explain if you're asked (wink, wink, hint, hint). This week you're going to "explore" (ba dum sss) more in depth about individual explorers and their motivations to sail. The information sheet you need to fill out is attached to this post. Keep in mind that the important information is all about what they did on their exploration voyages. While filling out your note sheet, focus on:
These are the links you should use to find the information. You don't need to use any other website, all the information you need will be there if you READ. www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/john-cabot/ exploration.marinersmuseum.org/type/age-of-discovery/ http://cloverbar.ca/eteacher_download/3893/83721 This note sheet will be due on MONDAY, DECEMBER 3!!

Tuesday, November 27- SKI DAY!!! Please make sure you're at the school by 7:50am.
The grade 7's are continuing with the animation workshop this week and Monday of next week. Once animation is wrapped up, be ready to begin researching European Explorers!! 7A and 7D Students have been divided into 4 groups representing countries that were to explore North America:
1. England 2. France 3. Spain 4. Portugal Each group was given 5 scenarios of events which occurred within the countries before exploration, mainly focused on the 3G's: God, Gold and Glory. Students were given time during today's double period to rehearse their skits and will be presenting on Monday! Time will given Monday as well to rehearse and refresh the information. 7C and 7E will complete this task next week. In order to wrap up First Nations BEFORE European arrival, you will need to think as an anthropologist (someone who studies people and their cultures) and write one paragraph (8-10 sentences) about what First Nations cultures in Canada have in common and how they survived. This is based on the presentations given by you and your classmates earlier in the year, as well as the mind map we completed today as a class. You’ll have to think critically about the different groups and why their culture is the way it is! Give specific examples of First Nations groups in your paragraph. This assignment will be completed as an exit slip tomorrow!
Paragraph 1- The introduction
Keep it general. Introduce the Olympics and how Calgary is considering bidding on them. Talk about some of the general pros and cons. Talk about the bid process itself- whose involved, cost, etc. CLEARLY STATE YOUR OPINION! You must be either yes or no- their is no kind of on the ballot. Paragraph 2: Supporting detail Go into details about a specific reason you are for or against the Olympics. This is where you bring in some research, facts, and information. Be specific and detailed. You should be able to talk about 5 sentences. For example if your reason is it's too expensive you would have to talk about the economic side of the debate in detail, and those details should support your opinion Paragraph 3: More support and conclusion You may want to have another reason to support your opinion or maybe more specific details about your first supporting detail. You will also want to have a concluding sentence or two. Pro tip- the most persuasive pieces of writing save their best arguments for the end! You will have to write 3 paragraphs that persuade your teacher to vote either yes or no to bidding on the olympics. Rough copy Monday. Peer editing and good copy Tuesday. This will be due at the end of the day Tuesday
Calgary is having a plebiscite on November 13. A plebiscite is like an election on a single issue, and Calgarians, who are eligible to vote, can vote on whether or not we want to bid to host the olympics. We would be in competition with Sweden and Italy if we decide to go through with the bid. Over the next few days you will research the different points of view, discuss, and formulate your own opinions based of off the information. We will have a debate, you will write a persuasive paragraph, and you can participate in a mock plebiscite and vote.
Use the links below for your research: www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Recreation/Pages/Calgary-2026-Olympic-bid/Olympic-Bid-Public-Engagement.aspx http://nocalgaryolympics.org/ https://www.yescalgary2026.ca/ We will be holding a debate on the topic FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9th! Be prepared to share your opinion and have evidence to back up your arguments! Use the KWL chart to organize your thoughts. Poems that were worked on in class today are due TOMORROW for 7A, 7C, 7D and 7E.
You will have a quiz TOMORROW, NOVEMBER 6th related to The Terrible Path. It is 5 questions (which have been posted below so you can practice your written answers tonight! You are not allowed to bring in your written answers already completed, however, practice as much as you please!
Examples of a 1, 2, 3, and 4 response have also been included below.
