Students chose groups of 2-4 yesterday and also chose a First Nations tribe to research. Groups will be given until Tuesday (end of class) to complete their research. They will then be deciding how to present their information to the class. PRESENTATIONS WILL OCCUR ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 15th!
Here are the notes we covered on elements of story. Remember this is how we will analyze all stories (short stories, novels, films) so it will be important to have a good understanding of these notes going forward. They are also interrelated, which means they are connected, and when you discuss one element you are actually probably discussing other elements too.
A Canada map assignment was introduced today in preparation for the students to begin learning about First Nations in Canada. This assignment is due tomorrow if it was not finished during class time. **Only classes 7A, 7C, 7D, 7E** 7B will be working on this assignment later in the week. If you were absent, please complete it for tomorrow.
Today students had to hand in an exit slip that answered the question: Should cell phones be banned in school? This was after reviewing several sources and small group discussions. Students should have used information from the sources and from the debate in response to the question.
Each student is expected to have a novel, of his/her choice, at the appropriate reading level, to silent read each class. The novel will then be used for a novel study assignment (announced at a later date). As students read each class, they are expected to fill out a reading log to track what they have read! Reading logs will be handed in weekly. If you lose yours... print a new one off :-)
This week in Humanities we will be looking at different skills used in research! Theses strategies will help with the upcoming First Nations group research project.
